Winter Inspiration Pinterest Board

What better way to get through the winter in Chicago, than to find things that inspire you.

I recently put together a Pinterest board to continue to inspire me this winter. Its basically just a bunch of pretty things that I like looking at, not really sure what the theme is just yet! But that’s the beauty of Pinterest, you can start pinning things to a board and see where it leads you. After a while, the board starts to curate itself, its really fun!

Let me know what you think, and feel free to check out the rest of my Pinterest page!

Restaurant Spotlight: Harvest

Last week I traveled out to St. Charles to try Harvest Restaurant, which is located in the Pheasant Run Resort & Spa. It was well worth the journey out to the suburbs, let me tell you.

Every Thursday in October, Executive Chef Tiffany Tooker offers a beer-pairing menu, featuring a four course menu, starting at 5pm with seatings until 10pm. Hopefully, they continue this special after October, because it was so delicious and delightful. Everyone should try it. I’ll even go out there with you. Just let me know. I’m not busy.

A lovely, vanilla-y, red lager made exclusively for Pheasant Run by Leinenkugel. I’m very bummed I can’t buy this elsewhere, guess I’ll just have to go back.

The warm and inviting atmosphere: vintage books on bookshelves, comfy leather chairs and booths made everything feel cozy and inviting.

The service was attentive, but not too much. It was a great balance, Jeanette was a gem!

And now, photos of the food!

We started off with fresh baked Asiago and Multigrain bread with homemade Cinnamon butter.

breadThe first course was diver sea scallops wrapped in bacon and drizzled with an apricot glaze, paired with Stella Artois Lager. YUP.

Next came a wedge salad with heirloom tomatoes, bacon and buttermilk bleu cheese dressing, served with ChiTown Pier Pale Ale. Also, YUP.

The last course was my favorite. Wild mushroom crusted filet mignon with spinach risotto and grilled asparagus. Served with the Leinenkugel red lager (my fave!). At this point I was full to bursting, but could literally not. Stop. Eating.

And then there was dessert…molten chocolate cake topped with Crème Anglaise and served with Guiness Stout. Could’ve done without the Guiness, but the cake was to die for.

What a great experience this was! It was more than dinner, the tasting menu and welcoming service made the whole evening really enjoyable. I definitely recommend it!

Special thanks to Kelly Wisecarver for inviting me!

National Handbag Day?

Today is National Handbag Day…who knew? Not me! Can someone please make me a calendar so I can keep track of all of these days? National Coffee Day, National Dog Day, National Pen Pal Day –I can’t keep track.

So in honor of these (pretend) holiday, I am listing my top picks for different kinds of bags (work lady bag, party girl bag, exercise bag, etc), in case National Handbag Day compels you to treat yo’ self and buy something new!

Work Lady Bag:

Yes, it has a strap. Love that the perforation changes it up a bit!

September Issues Volume 4: Madewell for Fall!

Screen Shot 2014-09-23 at 10.39.34 AM

As previously mentioned, I am a super fan of fall fashion, specifically, Madewell fall fashion. Madewell really does fall right. I don’t know if its because of its preppy-dressing champion, role model big brother J. Crew, or the fact that they originally hail from the East coast, but whatever the case. They get it. Take a peek at my favorite looks from their recently released fall lookbook! I know I can’t wait to get my hands on that oversized plaid shirt and those leather knee-patch jeans.

Added bonus! Groupon Coupons has a page devoted to Madewell promos and deals. Right now Madewell is offering free shipping on ANY order. Even BETTER added bonus? Groupon even keeps expired coupons on the site, so you can try your luck to see if you can get even more savings. I’m all about that.

September Issues Volume 3: I Heart Camel

Another installment of the September Issues is here, just in time for it to start feeling a hell of a lot like fall. Its starting to get really blustery and icky out there, and I’m finally starting to feel like I’m getting in the right frame of mine for it. Late last week, as the temperature plummeted and it started raining sideways, I was upset. I felt a lot like a two year old throwing a tantrum, kicking and screaming as winter starts to rear its ugly head. But you know what? I’ve decided to turn my ‘tude around. I’m going to start embracing fall and subsequently, winter. I can do it, I know I can. And you know what’s going to help? Glorious camel-colored pieces, like the ones below.

Camel is the epitome of fall colors to me. Its super luxurious and the fact that is the most neutral of neutrals makes it super easy to style. Wear it with almost any color (I like navy, fuchsia, cobalt blue, or even a graphic pattern) for a fool-proof fall look.

September Issues Volume 2: Oxblood Obsession

Zara Epaulette topZara Epaulette Top

For the second installment of the September Issues, I want to talk about the color oxblood. It first became a thing last fall, but I’m happy to report that it’s back in action for fall 2014.

In case you aren’t sure what color I’m speaking of, oxblood is a super rich, deep, purple-y red that’s almost kind of brown. Merlot, if you will. Oxblood is at its best when used as an accent piece (think a pair of boots or a leather skirt), and looks best with neutral colors like navy, camel or grey (or even camo??). Though, there are some really interesting color combinations that I’ve been seeing, like these looks from Phillip Lim:

Here are a few gorgeous oxblood pieces I’m dying to get my hands on. How would you wear oxblood this fall?
